A Reverse Poem

A reverse poem is a clever craft move because you must write with two poems in mind. One that reads as a normal poem would be read, and the second you will read it in reverse, beginning at the bottom and read to the top. Word selection is KEY! You must wordsmith to find the specific word choice that creates the feeling and message you intend not on that word to imply, but also the entire poem.

I wrote about my daughter, Ashley. SHE is my miracle!! Every person is given one miracle in life, and she is mine. I am blessed to have known the nearness of death and to trust change without fear. I learned strength comes in the weakest moments. I learned a fighting spirit is something we are born with, and it must be kindled or the flame extinguishes itself. I learned the meaning of unconditional love, of putting another before yourself, of standing up for my children at all costs!! I am the mother of a preemie, the smallest baby ever born (34 years ago). 1 pound, 4 ounces. 23 weeks. At one month of age, she weight 13 ounces. Think about that...not even a pound. I held her for the first time when she was four weeks old, and pumped oxygen into her lungs the entire time. I visited her daily, twice. For four months she belonged to others- the angels of the Queen of the Valley NICU. I will forever be thankful to these nurses who tirelessly spoke positivity and love into Ashley. I took my poem and turned the lines in reverse. Beginning with the last line, I moved it to the top as my first line. Continuing this pattern, I rewrote my poem AND the tricky part is you have to write it from the START with this idea in mind. Or, the reverse poem will sound messed up, out of order and like nonsense. Here is my reverse poem...my hope was the tone to be more positive.
